Free Workshop Prepares Fishermen to Protect Their Livelihood

You must be informed to influence policies and regulations. That’s the premise behind the Marine Resource Education Program (MREP), which prepares fishermen to speak up about regulatory issues impacting the shrimp industry. Shrimpers are invited to participate in the MREP’s next Southeast Fisheries Science & Management Workshop in St. Petersburg, FL. The free, all-inclusive workshop will run February 10–14,2025 at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront hotel.   The workshops are free and include the cost of your travel to and from the workshops, your hotel room, and food for the duration of the program. The program and workshop are “by fishermen, for fishermen,” which means fishermen design, operate, and oversee the entire process. As such, fishermen moderate sessions on fisheries science and management to help scientists and regulators explain complex concepts and issues in an approachable way, keeping the discussion real. The Southern Shrimp Alliance encourages you to explore the program. The shrimp industry benefits from knowledgeable members who are ready to discuss issues that affect it.   REGISTER HERE
