Short Weights

Frozen shrimp in the U.S. are sold by weight. When frozen shrimp is sold with water added to it, with net weights substantially below the listed product weight, sellers cheat consumers, shrimp producers, and honest retailers and distributors. The Southern Shrimp Alliance works with federal and state agencies to combat “short-weight” fraud and seeks to identify and stop offenders.
