The commitment to sea turtle conservation has all but defined the U.S. shrimp fishery for decades. The Southern Shrimp Alliance and its members have an extensive record of successful engagement in federal sea turtle research, management, and restoration programs that continue to achieve the objectives of the intensive sea turtle conservation regime pursuant to the Endangered Species Act and the Magnuson-Stevens Act. The use of TEDs by the U.S. shrimp fishery has also been highly effective in minimizing the capture of coastal shark species of concern such as blacknose sharks.
