Offshore Wind Energy

Soon after taking office in 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 14008 “Tackling the Climate Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad” setting forth the Administration’s goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030. Since then, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has proceeded swiftly to implement this goal in the Gulf of Mexico. The Southern Shrimp Alliance has engaged extensively in this intensive process working closely with BOEM and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in innovative ways to deconflict offshore wind energy development with the Gulf shrimp fisheries in order to preserve shrimp fishermen’s access to their traditional shrimp fishing grounds.
