NOTICE TO FISHING VESSELS – New Telecommunication Cable – FIRMINA – Installation in Myrtle Beach, SC

Dear Fishing Vessels and Mariners – US East Coast Myrtle Beach, SC Federal Waters

Please be advised that the cable laying ship CS DURABLE will be conducting telecommunication cable installation operations for the undersea fiber optic communications cable FIRMINA off Myrtle Beach, SC beginning approximately January 8 and completing approximately February 16, 2023. This phase of the project is beyond 3 nautical miles from shore in Federal Waters only.  [See attached flyer and route position list.]

Plow cable burial operations will take place starting at 15 nautical miles from shore at N33 30.5291, W078 40.3469 and proceed offshore toward N32 20.7442, W076 49.0447. The deep-water section of the route will be laid on the seabed (not buried) from N32 20.7442, W076 49.0447 to N31 02.4875, W075 22.1720. The first 15 nautical miles of cable from shore will be installed by another vessel in a separate marine operation scheduled for April 2023. We will update you when those details are available.

We kindly request that ships and fishing vessels keep a distance of at least 1 nm from the cable installation vessel to ensure safe operations.  We also kindly request that any set or drift gear, such as longlines, gillnets, and pots/traps be moved off the route by a distance of 1/2 nm on either side at the locations and during these periods noted above in order to avoid gear entanglement.

Once installed, the cable will be buried below the seabed so as not to impact fishing during its lifetime. Operations will be conducted along the planned route, as included and depicted within the attached flyer and route position list.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information and regarding the updated schedule so you can plan your gear moves.

Please forward this message to anyone who may be impacted. We greatly appreciate your assistance and cooperation during these operations.

The cable installation is in Federal Waters and is authorized by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Permit Number [SAC-2021-01124]. Notice-To-Mariners will be issued by the US Coast Guard.
