Labeling

Wild-caught shrimp plucked from well-managed U.S. waters are preferred by consumers. Federal country-of-origin labeling rules should allow Americans to choose U.S. wild-caught shrimp, but limited compliance and significant loopholes remain problematic. In restaurants, shrimp is frequently sold in ways that mislead consumers into thinking they are purchasing U.S. shrimp, such as being labeled “Gulf shrimp.” The Southern Shrimp Alliance strongly supports regulations that add clarity to consumers and deter mislabeling throughout the supply chain.
